“This game is intended for a wide range of institutions and individuals, who are interested in developing community-
centred disaster risk reduction initiatives. Examples may include, but are not limited to: an organization dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage, a municipality revising its disaster risk reduction plan, an urban planning department that would like to introduce physical mitigation measures, a humanitarian or community-based organization engaged in disaster risk reduction.” (p.3)

“Which factors make communities more vulnerable or resilient to disasters? What role do age-old knowledge systems and other forms of heritage play in building resilience?
Tapping into the knowledge and experience held by communities living in risk-prone regions, this participatory game offers a rare opportunity to build a common understanding of how the cultural and natural heritage of a place contributes to capacities for disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. At the same time, it reveals factors that make communities more vulnerable to disasters. It offers an empowering social experience for the participants and facilitators alike. It enables the interested local governments and organizations to gather and incorporate perspectives from residents of a place, coming from all walks of life.
The overall aim is to provide a creative tool for encouraging a people-centred approach to disaster risk reduction, which integrates concerns for cultural and natural heritage.”

SDGs LINKAGES
The resource is most closely linked to targets relating to Disaster Risk Reduction, including the implementation of inclusive plans for Disaster Risk Reduction (SDG 11.B), through educational activities supporting SDGs 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development), 12.8 (lifestyles in harmony with nature) and 13.3 (climate change education and awareness).
These are implemented in participatory ways supporting inclusive education (SDG 4.5), empowering social, political and economic inclusion (SDG 10.2), inclusive development of communities (SDG 11.3), inclusive decision-making (SDG 16.7), and effective cross-sector and cross-society partnerships (SDG 17.17).
Making effective use of cultural and natural heritage supports SDGs 6.B (participatory management of water resources), 11.4 (protect and safeguard cultural and natural heritage) and 11.7 (inclusive green and public spaces). Implementing the resource helps build communities’ resilience and the resilience of cultural and natural heritage, which helps reduce losses as a result of disasters (SDGs. 1.5, 3.D and 11.5), and build adaptive capacity to climate change (SDG 13.1).

- Number of collecting programmes that aim to build resilience to climate-related events and other shocks and disasters, for example by forming collections that can contribute to related educational and research programmes.
- Number of educational programmes drawing on collections that incorporate resilience perspectives.
