The declaration is cited by mayors and councillors, but also by civil society and cultural actors, an unequivocal sign of its open nature. It has been translated into seventeen languages and maintains a website permanently updated through circulars and newsletters... [this report] is a document with detailed explanations of the implementation of the declaration in cities from all over the world, and rich in observations, suggestions and nuances.” (p.5)

SDGs LINKAGES
The case studies give a range of experiences of working with, developing and implementing cultural policy, primarily aimed at promoting local development in the sense of social and economic development. Cultural education features in many of the case studies (supporting SDG 4.7). Creation of jobs and training relates to targets 4.4, 8.1, 8.3, 8.5 and 8.6. Activities that support sustainable tourism support SDG 8.9. Promoting cultural participation and inclusion featured in case studies supports SDGs 1.4, 3.4, 5.1, 10.2 and 10.3. Providing welcoming, effective facilities and public spaces supports SDGs 4.A, 9.1 and 11.7. Promoting sustainable urbanization supports SDG 11.3, and effective links between urban and rural areas supports SDG 11.A. Protecting and safeguarding cultural and natural heritage as part of local development contributes to SDG 11.4. Having effective policies and partnerships in place contributes to SDGs 16.6, 17.14, 17.16 and 17.17.
