Safeguarding Endangered Oral Traditions in East Africa

“A team of researchers carried out a study between October 2007 and January 2008 to investigate and record the oral traditions and related indigenous knowledge of three minority groups in Kenya – the Suba, Yaaku and Segeju… More important, this activity has developed a draft format for inventorying intangible cultural heritage in Kenya… Therefore, this report provides the outcome of the survey and lays the foundation for a more comprehensive research and documentation of intangible cultural heritage in Kenya. The study also provides useful findings that will help to extend the study to other areas and also help safeguard the intangible cultural heritage in Kenya.” (p.5-6)
