A Toolkit for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage Together with Museums

“This toolkit provides you with all the content you may need to safeguard intangible cultural heritage in your organization. There are three categories:
- The introduction category includes introductory publications on the topic of ICH & museums: books, visuals on the basics of ICH & museums, an overview framework and more.
- The tools category includes practical tools to start working with ICH, including brainstorm exercises and workshops, guidelines, sets of guiding principles, et cetera.
The inspiration category includes inspiring case studies and co-creations, a bibliography, video testimonials, external toolkits with a focus on the topic of ICH & museums and a series of relevant background documents.”

The open-access online toolkit platform can help support collections-based institutions, museums in particular, to recognize the significance, actions to safeguard and then maximize the full potentials of their intangible cultural heritage (ICH) collections. Topics, case studies and issues presented in the book are related to the following SDG targets: 4.7 (roles of ICH and museums in non-formal education and cultural transmission), 8.9 (value local culture and artisans practicing ICH), 10.2 (collections development that meets the needs of all), 11.4 (safeguard ICH), 11.7 (accessible spaces for people from diverse abilities and backgrounds), 11.A (ICH as a means to connect and reconnect with areas beyond the city), 11.B (risk analysis, prevention and management), 12.8 (consolidate culture’s position in sustainable development), 13.3 (respond to climate change in ICH-museum projects and operation), 16.7 (inclusive and participatory institution), 17.16 (strengthen partnerships among all stakeholders) and 17.19 (develop strategies that are based on existing frameworks and guidelines that help achieve protecting ICH).
