Community arts are created by, with, and for a community. The community is actively involved in creating, or learning how to create the art. Community arts projects are usually supported or led by artists who are skilled at working with communities.

SDGs LINKAGES
The resource is mainly concerned with social inclusion and participation. Implementing the resource supports a number of SDG targets including 4.4 (staff skills for sustainable development), 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development) and 10.2 (promote universal social, economic and political inclusion). Promoting access to the arts for people with disabilities and experience of mental health supports SDGs 1.4 (access to basic services for everyone), 3.4 (incorporate wellbeing considerations and perspectives), 4.5 (removing barriers in education) and 4.A (develop safe and inclusive learning environments), and supports the achievement of SDG 11.7 (safe and welcoming green and public places). Working collaboratively with others on developing a dynamic and resilient arts sector supports SDGs 17.16 and 17.17, on multi-stakeholder and cross-sector partnerships. The focus on fundraising and support for community arts projects can support SDG 8.3 (supporting productive enterprises, and SMEs); the focus on innovation-driven projects supports SDG 8.2.

- Numbers and proportions of people from particular groups using collections in comparison with demographics in broader society.
- Numbers of people accessing collections.
- Number of targeted programmes that aim to enhance access to collections by disadvantaged groups.
- Sustainable tourism that enhances local communities’ access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property (including cultural and natural heritage), as well as to technology and markets.
