“The aim of this Booklet of Community and Sustainable Museums is to share the experience and knowledge of our project Advisors - Beatriz Espinoza, Hugues de Varine, Teresa Morales Lersch, and Peter Davis - concerning the key concepts and features of community and sustainable museums. They also provide reflections and didactic tools to suggest how a community might go about conceiving and creating a new community or ecomuseum if they so wished.” (p.16)

The resource is most strongly linked to SDG targets around sustainable communities, including social inclusion (SDG 10.2), inclusive settlement planning and management (SDG 11.3), protecting and safeguarding cultural and natural heritage (SDG 11.4), and inclusive and welcoming green and public places (SDGs 11.7 and also 4.A).
Ensuring people have access to their heritage supports SDG 1.4. Supporting education on community heritage and practices can support SDG 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development), lifestyles in harmony with nature (SDG 12.8) and education that supports climate action (SDG 13.3). Ecomuseums can support sustainable tourism, that creates jobs and markets for local products (SDG 8.9). Ensuring decision-making is made with community involvement supports SDGs 16.6 (effective, accountable and transparent institutions), SDG 16.7 (responsive, inclusive and participatory decision making) and SDG 17.17 (which includes public, public-private and civil society partnerships).

- Numbers and proportions of people from particular groups using collections in comparison with demographics in broader society.
- Numbers of people accessing collections.
