“The Art Museum of Estonia has established the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its activities in order to contribute to the social, environmental and cultural well-being of society. The Art Museum of Estonia is a pioneer and leader in museum sustainability in the Estonian museum sector, and believes that the entire cultural field plays an important role in ensuring sustainability and raising awareness in society.

 

The sustainability policy of the Art Museum of the Estonian is consistent with its statutes and development plan for 2022–2025. We have established the sustainability policy in accordance with the resolution adopted at the ICOM General Conference in 2019 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

The resource is most closely linked to SDG 12.6 (adopt sustainable practices and reporting), and a number of related targets including 11.6 (reducing the adverse impact of cities), 12.2 (use of natural resources), 12.3 (reducing food waste), 12.4 (management of wastes), 12.5 (reducing waste), 12.7 (sustainable procurement), 13.3 (contributing to climate action). Reducing water consumption supports SDG 6.4. Adopting renewable energy supports SDG 7.2, and enhancing energy efficiency supports SDG 7.3. The emphasis on social inclusion can support, for example, SDGs 1.4 (equal access to services), 4.5 (removing barriers in education), 10.2 (universal inclusion) and 11.7 (safe and inclusive green and public spaces). Supporting wellbeing supports 3.4, and sustainable infrastructure for wellbeing supports 9.1. Policies for sustainable development supports 16.B (along with 12.6) and 17.14 (policy coherence for sustainable development). Educational programmes that support sustainable development support 4.7 (Education for Sustainable Development), 12.8 (information for sustainable lifestyles) and 13.3 (climate education and action). Supporting workers’ working conditions supports 8.5 (decent work) and 8.8 (labour rights), as well as 3.4 (wellbeing) and 4.4 (skills for work). These activities can all also support 8.9 (sustainable tourism).
