IPBES Sustainable Use of Wild Species Assessment
“This assessment evaluates the sustainable use of wild species through the lens of practices, environmental and spatial contexts, human communities, policies, governance systems and institutions. The aim of this assessment is to consider various approaches to enhance the sustainability of the use of wild species besides their existence values and identify challenges and opportunities that ensure and promote the sustainable use of wild species with the aim to with the aim to reduce and eventually eliminate unsustainable and illegal use within the ecosystems that they inhabit and to strengthen related practices, measures, capacities and the conservation that arises from such use. It builds on previous IPBES assessments, most recently the Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services1, which has recently evaluated the status of wild species worldwide and documented the impacts of human uses on wild populations.” (p.1)
